The first half of the year moved swiftly it seemed. This may be because the DOH-RO VI has undertaken a lot of activities and collaborative efforts with local government units, development partners and stakeholders in ensuring that quality health services are felt in the communities.
This issue of Beyond Health Care features the experiences of our personnel on the ground – how they overcome geographical and personal challenges just to bring health services to people especially in disadvantaged communities and how our regional team went out of their way to respond and assist the victims of the Marawi siege. It is also worthy to note the reflections and appreciation of our staff in the work that they do, bringing about service with a purpose and compassion.
We also share with you the laudable efforts of our partners in the provincial and municipal levels in helping us achieve better health outcomes.
Lastly, we are proud that our Regional Director, Dr. Marlyn W. Convocar was awarded as one of the Outstanding Women of Iloilo City for 2018 in the field of government service, a testament of the dedicated and unselfish service in championing public health.

“Go beyond better.”
This is the driving force behind our relentless advocacies, program initiatives and service provision to achieve better health outcomes for Region VI.
Aligned with Health Secretary Francisco Duque’s thrust to make DOH a top performing government agency under the Duterte administration, health programs started for the Philippine Health Agenda were merged with a strategic approach through the revitalization of FOURmula One Plus. The strategic focus of F1 Plus is to institutionalize a people-centered Service Delivery Network and lead a whole of society collaboration at all levels to help people live healthy.
Performance accountability is one important pillar added and often emphasized under the F1 plus - along with financing, regulation, service delivery and governance. As we confront today’s persistent health challenges, we are guided with the core values by which performance accountability is measured - integrity, excellence and compassion in all our undertakings, interaction and service delivery to the Filipino people.
The stories of our health workers and their exposure in community work as shared in the pages of this issue of Beyond Health Care reflect the dedication of our staff to help improve the health and wellness of people particularly in conflict affected and geographically isolated areas.
As we continue to work on the achievement of our goals, we remain committed to perform our responsibility and accountability to the Filipino people. Indeed, one way to gauge our performance accountability is how we have gone beyond better in public health.
